The syllabus of AAFT Online’s Diploma in Fashion Designing Courses consists of various subjects that have been researched and put together into one course so as to give any student who has completed 10+2, a complete and holistic knowledge of all the things that are most necessary to become proficient in the language of fashion. The syllabus of the course is as follows:

Module 1 – Design 1

Learn about the various elements of design and the principles of good design. Get an introduction to the world of fashion and find what elements, people, and concepts inspire you. Learn to make ‘visual presentations’ I.e.: Boards and Art plates. The module ends with an assignment.

Module 2 – History of Fashion

Start by learning about the history of Indian fashion design throughout the ages and how it evolved. Learn about the Indian Designers who are making a mark and learn about their design styles, themes, and work. Learn also about the history of world fashion, fashion from the 20th century, and about global designers who have made an impression on the world of fashion. End the module with a project/assignment based on what was learned in the module.

Module 3 – Portfolio

This module is very hands-on right off the bat, it begins with a case study, learning about fashion forecasting and range development. Moving on to a project about the same. The module ends with an assignment.

Module 4 – Fashion Illustration

Begin your journey with illustration! Learn to draw ‘croquis’ or fashion models by first delving into the introduction to the female anatomy, muscles, bones, and body structures and understanding postures. Learn flat drawings and move over to stylized and exaggerated fashion drawings. Define silhouettes and learn to illustrate with alternative materials. Create lookbooks and a portfolio. End the module with assignment number 4

Module 5 – Pattern Making – I (Women’s)

Learn dart manipulations and variations, introduction to basic bodice block. Learn to design necklines, collars, pockets, and sleeves. Introduction to basic skirt block. The module ends with an assignment.

Module 6 – Garment Construction – I (Women’s)

Introduction to the sewing machine, tools, and equipment, different hem types, and samples. Create a 1/4th size bodice with sleeves, and create a 1/4th size skirt. Learn specification sheets. The module ends with an assignment.

Module 7 – Textiles – I (Theory Based)

Get an introduction to textiles, learn the classification of Fibers and yarns, and learn the basics of weaving and knitting (production). Learn about sustainability and the bane of fast fashion. Learn about dyeing and printing, and get an overview of Indian textiles and embroideries. The module ends with an assignment.

Module 8 – CAD (PowerPoint, Microsoft Paint, Canva)

Introduction to PowerPoint, Paint, and Canva. Learn designing in Corel Draw and tools and draw croquis in it.

Module 9 – PORTFOLIO

Creation of a complete portfolio of all work and assignments done.
